Border Collie: weight, routine and daily dose
The Border Collie is still seen doing the job it was bred for: working sheep, and cattle, with speed, an innate herding instinct and a stealthy gait. Its name comes from the border regions of England, Scotland and Wales where it first proved its worth on the hills and mountains, and its intelligence and versatility have since carried it into obedience, agility and work as a sniffer dog detecting explosives and drugs.
The breed standard calls it a tenacious, hard-working sheepdog of great tractability — keen, alert, responsive and intelligent. The Royal Kennel Club recommends more than two hours of exercise a day and says the breed needs to be engaged to lead a fulfilled life, so a Collie’s routine is as much about mental work as walks, with mealtimes as the steady, predictable points in a busy day.

How many DIGEST+ tablets does a Border Collie need?

|---|---|---|---|
| 11–25 kg | 2 tablets/day | 60 days | Every 6 weeks |
The bottle label prints 25 kg in two rows (11–25 kg and 25–40 kg). We use the 11–25 kg row at exactly 25 kg; if your dog is heavier than 25 kg, use the 25–40 kg row.

Feeding-routine notes for Border Collie owners
- A typical range of about 13.5–25 kg puts most adult Border Collies in the 11–25 kg band. Weigh your own dog and check the dose calculator.
- Food puzzles and scatter-feeding part of a meal can add mental work to a Collie’s day; count anything used this way as part of the daily ration.
- Very active dogs often do well on two meals a day; giving a supplement with the same meal each day keeps it consistent.
- Keep food changes gradual, and speak to your vet about any vomiting, diarrhoea or change in appetite.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Border Collie: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Border Collie have a day?
Typical adult Border Collies weigh 13.5–25 kg, which is the 11–25 kg row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: 2 tablets/day. Always use your own dog’s current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Border Collie?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 2 tablets/day one bottle lasts 60 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
When should I give a supplement to a working Border Collie?
With a regular meal at the same point each day, whether it is a working day or not. Many owners prefer to let an active dog settle after eating before hard work. If you are unsure how to feed a dog doing a lot of work, ask your vet.
Can I use a supplement tablet as part of a Collie’s training?
Giving it from the hand after a simple cue is fine, as long as it is given once a day as the label directs and not used as a repeated reward. Keep fresh drinking water available.
Can every Border Collie have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Border Collie is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
