Boston Terrier: weight, routine and daily dose
The Boston Terrier takes its name from the New England city where it was developed; the Royal Kennel Club notes that its first club was founded in Boston in the 1890s and that by the 1950s it was the most popular breed in the USA. The breed’s reputed founding father, Hooper’s Judge, was born in Liverpool — a cross between a Bulldog and an English White Terrier — which makes the Boston the smallest of the bull breeds.
The breed standard describes a small, smooth-coated, compactly built dog that is lively, intelligent, determined and strong-willed, with a short muzzle and an impression of strength and activity without heaviness. It also divides the breed into three weight classes, all under 11.5 kg. With up to an hour’s exercise a day suggested, a Boston fits comfortably into a flat or small-house routine.

How many DIGEST+ tablets does a Boston Terrier need?
A typical adult Boston Terrier weighs 5–11.5 kg, which crosses 2 rows of the DIGEST+ feeding guide. Weigh your own dog and use the row for its current weight — the table shows each case.
| Your dog’s weight | Tablets per day | One bottle lasts | Suggested refill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 10 kg | 1 tablet/day | 120 days | Every 12 weeks |
| 11–25 kg | 2 tablets/day | 60 days | Every 6 weeks |
The label goes from “up to 10 kg” to “11–25 kg”. A dog over 10 kg is no longer in the first band, so we use the 11–25 kg row.

Feeding-routine notes for Boston Terrier owners
- The standard’s three weight classes run from under 6.8 kg to 11.5 kg, spanning more than one band of the feeding guide — weigh your own dog rather than going by the breed.
- With a short muzzle, some Bostons find a crushed tablet mixed into a little food easier than a whole one.
- A lively, determined dog can bolt its food; a slow-feeder bowl or scattering part of the meal makes mealtimes calmer.
- Small, measured meals at set times suit a dog this size; keep extras small, as they add up quickly on a compact frame.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Boston Terrier: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Boston Terrier have a day?
Typical adult Boston Terriers weigh 5–11.5 kg, which crosses more than one row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: Up to 10 kg: 1 tablet/day; 11–25 kg: 2 tablets/day. Weigh your dog and use the row for its current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Boston Terrier?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 1 tablet/day one bottle lasts 120 days; At 2 tablets/day one bottle lasts 60 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
Which weight class is my Boston Terrier, and does it matter for the feeding guide?
The Royal Kennel Club standard has three classes: lightweight under 6.8 kg, middleweight 6.8 kg to under 9.1 kg, and heavyweight 9.1 kg to under 11.4 kg. The feeding guide works on your dog’s actual weight, so weigh your Boston rather than going by class. Your vet can confirm whether that weight suits your dog.
Can I crush the tablet for a short-muzzled dog?
Yes. DIGEST+ can be eaten directly or crushed into food. Mixing a crushed tablet into a small first portion of the meal is often the easiest way with short-muzzled breeds. Keep fresh drinking water available at all times.
Can every Boston Terrier have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Boston Terrier is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
