Miniature Schnauzer: weight, routine and daily dose
The original Schnauzer has been known in Germany since at least the 14th century, and the miniature is thought to have been created by bringing in Affenpinscher blood; the variety was first officially recorded in 1888. As the Royal Kennel Club puts it, the reduction in size brought no reduction in spirit, and the Miniature Schnauzer has become hugely popular as a companion.
The breed standard describes a well-balanced, smart, stylish and adaptable dog — alert, reliable and intelligent, and primarily a companion. The Royal Kennel Club suggests up to an hour of exercise a day and notes the breed is suited to a flat, so a Mini Schnauzer’s day is usually a mix of brisk walks, time with its people and regular meals that are easy to build a simple routine around.

Feeding-routine notes for Miniature Schnauzer owners
- A typical range of about 4.5–9.5 kg puts adult Miniature Schnauzers in the up to 10 kg band; weigh your own dog to be sure.
- Small dogs can gain weight quickly on titbits, so count rewards as part of the day’s food.
- If a whole tablet is awkward, crush it into a spoonful of the usual food and offer that first.
- Make any change of food gradually over several days, and speak to your vet about any vomiting, diarrhoea or change in appetite.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Miniature Schnauzer: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Miniature Schnauzer have a day?
Typical adult Miniature Schnauzers weigh 4.5–9.5 kg, which is the Up to 10 kg row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: 1 tablet/day. Always use your own dog’s current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Miniature Schnauzer?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 1 tablet/day one bottle lasts 120 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
Can a Miniature Schnauzer chew a whole tablet?
Most can, and many take a flavoured chewable from the hand. If yours prefers not to, crush it into a little of the usual food. Fresh drinking water should always be available.
What is the easiest way to remember a daily supplement for a Mini Schnauzer?
Tie it to something that already happens every day, such as breakfast. Keeping the bottle near the food, while storing it somewhere cool and dry, makes the routine hard to forget.
Can every Miniature Schnauzer have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Miniature Schnauzer is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
