Bulldog: weight, routine and daily dose
The Bulldog’s ancestors were the smaller, thick-set dogs with strong heads that replaced leggier mastiff types in bull baiting, a practice the Normans brought to Britain. When bull baiting was made illegal in 1835 the breed lost its function, and it was dogs kept as companions that carried it into the show era; The Kennel Club recognised the Bulldog in 1873. Since the start of the 21st century, breeders and changes to the standard have focused on reducing exaggeration for the sake of health and welfare.
Today’s Bulldog is, in the Royal Kennel Club’s words, a calm, affectionate breed that thrives on human company — strong-willed, best taught in short positive sessions, and gentle despite an imposing look. Its exercise needs are low, usually a couple of short, gentle walks a day, and the Royal Kennel Club notes Bulldogs are prone to overheating, so a Bulldog’s routine is a slow, steady one built around cool walks and regular meals.

How many DIGEST+ tablets does a Bulldog need?

The bottle label prints 25 kg in two rows (11–25 kg and 25–40 kg). We use the 11–25 kg row at exactly 25 kg; if your dog is heavier than 25 kg, use the 25–40 kg row.

Feeding-routine notes for Bulldog owners
- The breed standard’s 23–25 kg puts most adult Bulldogs in the 11–25 kg band; a heavier dog may move into the next band, so weigh yours and check the dose calculator.
- The Royal Kennel Club advises limiting activity in warm weather, so in summer plan walks for the cooler parts of the day and keep fresh water to hand.
- With low exercise needs, a Bulldog can gain weight easily; measure meals and count titbits.
- Keep food changes gradual, and speak to your vet about any vomiting, diarrhoea or change in appetite.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Bulldog: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Bulldog have a day?
Typical adult Bulldogs weigh 23–25 kg, which is the 11–25 kg row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: 2 tablets/day. Always use your own dog’s current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Bulldog?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 2 tablets/day one bottle lasts 60 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
Can a Bulldog manage a chewable tablet?
Many Bulldogs take a flavoured chewable from the hand. If yours finds it awkward, crush it and mix it into a small portion of the usual food, then give the rest of the meal.
When is the best time of day for a Bulldog’s supplement in summer?
Give it with a regular meal, as usual. In hot weather it can help to keep both meals and walks to the cooler parts of the day, with fresh drinking water always available. If your dog seems unwell in the heat, contact your vet.
Can every Bulldog have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Bulldog is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
