Italian Greyhound: weight, routine and daily dose
The Italian Greyhound is a miniaturised sight hound with a long history: the Royal Kennel Club notes that dogs of this type can be seen on tombs from ancient Egypt and the Roman Empire. Fine-boned and dainty, it keeps the elegant curving outline of the larger hounds in its ancestry, and its fine coat and high-stepping action are said to have the exquisite quality of Dresden china.
The breed standard calls it a greyhound in miniature, more slender in all proportions — elegant, graceful and quick-moving, intelligent, affectionate and vivacious, though it may appear aloof. With an ideal weight of just 3.6–4.5 kg and up to an hour’s exercise a day suggested, small portions and careful measuring are what a good routine looks like.

Feeding-routine notes for Italian Greyhound owners
- At an ideal 3.6–4.5 kg, an Italian Greyhound sits well inside the lightest band of the feeding guide. Small changes are a big share of a small dog’s weight, so weigh occasionally all the same.
- A small mouth can make a whole tablet awkward; crushing it into a spoonful of food is often easiest.
- Small dogs eat small meals, so any extras make up a large share of the day’s food. Keep treats tiny and count them.
- Offer the portion containing the tablet first, before the rest of the meal, so you can see it has been eaten.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Italian Greyhound: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Italian Greyhound have a day?
Typical adult Italian Greyhounds weigh 3.6–4.5 kg, which is the Up to 10 kg row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: 1 tablet/day. Always use your own dog’s current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Italian Greyhound?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 1 tablet/day one bottle lasts 120 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
Is a tablet too big for an Italian Greyhound?
Some small dogs take a whole tablet happily; others do better with it crushed into a small amount of food. DIGEST+ can be given either way. If your dog has any difficulty eating or swallowing, speak to your vet.
How do I know my Italian Greyhound’s weight is right?
The breed standard gives an ideal weight of 3.6–4.5 kg, but individual dogs vary. Kitchen or baby scales are usually more accurate than bathroom scales for a dog this small, or your vet can weigh your dog. Ask your vet if you are unsure what a healthy weight looks like for yours.
Can every Italian Greyhound have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Italian Greyhound is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
