Rottweiler: weight, routine and daily dose
The Rottweiler takes its name from Rottweil in south-west Germany, for centuries a livestock market town. The Royal Kennel Club traces the breed to mastiff-type herding dogs that are thought to have accompanied Roman armies and their cattle, later developed by local cattle dealers and farmers into a strong drovers’ dog that could also guard against robbers. Farmers heading home from market are said to have tied their money bags to the dog’s collar — a safe place, given the breed’s protective nature.
The breed standard describes a good-natured, courageous and biddable dog with natural guarding instincts, and the Royal Kennel Club stresses that it needs responsible owners who can harness its intelligence and activity. With more than two hours of exercise recommended each day, a Rottweiler’s routine is a structured one — training, long walks and meals at the same times.

Feeding-routine notes for Rottweiler owners
- A typical range of about 36–61.5 kg means most adult Rottweilers are in the 26–40 kg or over 40 kg band. Weigh yours and check the dose calculator.
- Many owners of large dogs split the day’s food into two meals and let the dog settle after eating before long walks or training.
- Weighing a dog this size at home can be tricky; see how to weigh your dog, or ask your vet practice to use its scales.
- Keep food changes gradual, and speak to your vet about any vomiting, diarrhoea or change in appetite.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Rottweiler: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Rottweiler have a day?
Typical adult Rottweilers weigh 36–61.5 kg, which crosses more than one row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: 25–40 kg: 3 tablets/day; Over 40 kg: 4 tablets/day. Weigh your dog and use the row for its current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Rottweiler?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 3 tablets/day one bottle lasts 40 days; At 4 tablets/day one bottle lasts 30 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
How do I give a tablet to a large, strong dog like a Rottweiler?
Most large dogs take a flavoured chewable from the hand. Asking for a calm sit first, then offering it as a reward, is a simple approach. You can also crush it into a small first portion of food.
Does a Rottweiler’s supplement need to fit around training?
No. Link it to a regular meal rather than to training sessions, so it stays consistent on busy and quiet days alike. Fresh drinking water should always be available.
Can every Rottweiler have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Rottweiler is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
