Airedale Terrier: weight, routine and daily dose
The ‘King of the Terriers’ earns its title as the largest of the terrier breeds. The Royal Kennel Club traces it to Yorkshire, where enthusiasts showed their terriers at the Airedale Show near Ilkley; it was often called the Waterside Terrier for its work along riverbanks keeping down vermin. In the World Wars its scenting powers made it a tracking dog, and it served as a messenger in the trenches and a pack dog with the Red Cross.
The breed standard describes a muscular, active, fairly cobby dog, ‘on the tiptoe of expectation at any movement’ — outgoing, confident, friendly, courageous and intelligent, alert at all times and fearless without being aggressive. Up to an hour’s exercise a day is the RKC’s guide, so an Airedale’s day is a mix of purposeful walks, games and regular meals.

How many DIGEST+ tablets does a Airedale Terrier need?
A typical adult Airedale Terrier weighs 22.5–32 kg, which crosses 2 rows of the DIGEST+ feeding guide. Weigh your own dog and use the row for its current weight — the table shows each case.
| Your dog’s weight | Tablets per day | One bottle lasts | Suggested refill |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11–25 kg | 2 tablets/day | 60 days | Every 6 weeks |
| 25–40 kg | 3 tablets/day | 40 days | Every 4 weeks |
The bottle label prints 25 kg in two rows (11–25 kg and 25–40 kg). We use the 11–25 kg row at exactly 25 kg; if your dog is heavier than 25 kg, use the 25–40 kg row.

Feeding-routine notes for Airedale Terrier owners
- As the largest of the terriers, an Airedale can weigh anywhere from about 23 to 32 kg (AKC: 50–70 lb), spanning two bands of the feeding guide — weigh your own dog.
- If you use food in games or training with a keen, quick-moving Airedale, take those rewards out of the day’s allowance.
- Feed after exercise once your dog has settled, and keep the main meals at regular times.
- If you change food, make the switch gradually over several days so it is easy to see how your dog is settling.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Airedale Terrier: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Airedale Terrier have a day?
Typical adult Airedale Terriers weigh 22.5–32 kg, which crosses more than one row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: 11–25 kg: 2 tablets/day; 25–40 kg: 3 tablets/day. Weigh your dog and use the row for its current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Airedale Terrier?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 2 tablets/day one bottle lasts 60 days; At 3 tablets/day one bottle lasts 40 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
Is an Airedale a medium or large dog for the feeding guide?
It can be either. The AKC gives 50–70 pounds, roughly 23 to 32 kg, which spans two bands of the feeding guide. Weigh your own dog and use that figure, and ask your vet whether your dog’s weight is right for them.
How do I introduce a new addition to an Airedale’s bowl?
Offer the tablet crushed into a small first portion of a familiar meal, or by hand, since it is chicken-flavoured. Keep everything else about the meal unchanged while your dog gets used to it. If your dog goes off their food, speak to your vet.
Can every Airedale Terrier have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Airedale Terrier is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
