Beagle: weight, routine and daily dose
The Beagle is the smallest of the British pack hounds, bred to hunt small game — primarily hare, says the breed standard — and to be followed on foot by those who could not keep up with larger scenthounds on horseback. The breed was established in England by the 15th century and valued for its stamina, musical voice and exceptional scenting ability; Queen Elizabeth I even kept a pack of miniature Beagles said to be small enough to carry in a saddle pannier.
Bred to work in packs, the Beagle is sociable, good-tempered and thrives on companionship, and the standard calls it a merry hound, amiable and alert. The Royal Kennel Club notes it enjoys regular exercise and benefits from secure surroundings, because its keen nose may lead it off after an interesting scent — so a Beagle’s routine works best with secure walks, plenty of company and meals at steady times.

How many DIGEST+ tablets does a Beagle need?
A typical adult Beagle weighs 9–14 kg, which crosses 2 rows of the DIGEST+ feeding guide. Weigh your own dog and use the row for its current weight — the table shows each case.
| Your dog’s weight | Tablets per day | One bottle lasts | Suggested refill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 10 kg | 1 tablet/day | 120 days | Every 12 weeks |
| 11–25 kg | 2 tablets/day | 60 days | Every 6 weeks |
The label goes from “up to 10 kg” to “11–25 kg”. A dog over 10 kg is no longer in the first band, so we use the 11–25 kg row.

Feeding-routine notes for Beagle owners
- The UK standard asks for 33–40 cm at the withers, around the AKC’s 13–15 inch variety at 20–30 lb (about 9–14 kg). That straddles the up to 10 kg and 11–25 kg bands, so weigh your own dog.
- A scent-led dog can find food on walks that you did not offer; keeping its own meals measured and regular makes changes in appetite easier to spot.
- A chewable tablet can be given from the hand or crushed into a small first portion of food.
- Keep food changes gradual, and speak to your vet about any vomiting, diarrhoea or change in appetite — or if your dog may have eaten something it should not.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Beagle: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Beagle have a day?
Typical adult Beagles weigh 9–14 kg, which crosses more than one row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: Up to 10 kg: 1 tablet/day; 11–25 kg: 2 tablets/day. Weigh your dog and use the row for its current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Beagle?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 1 tablet/day one bottle lasts 120 days; At 2 tablets/day one bottle lasts 60 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
Can I hide my Beagle’s tablet in its food?
Yes. Crushing it into a small first portion of the usual food, then giving the rest, helps make sure it is eaten. Many dogs also take a flavoured chewable straight from the hand.
Should a Beagle’s supplement be given before or after a walk?
Either is fine, as long as it is the same each day. Many owners link it to breakfast or the evening meal so it is never missed. Fresh drinking water should always be available.
Can every Beagle have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Beagle is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
