Tibetan Terrier: weight, routine and daily dose
Despite its name, the Tibetan Terrier is not a terrier: the Royal Kennel Club notes it has been used as a herding dog for sheep. Closely related to the Lhasa Apso, it was shown alongside that breed as a ‘Lhasa Terrier’ at early UK shows. It came out of Tibet thanks to Dr Greig, an English surgeon working on the Indian–Tibetan border in the 1920s, whose Lamleh strain helped establish the breed in the UK and the USA; the Kennel Club recognised it in 1937.
The breed standard describes a sturdy, medium-sized, long-haired dog with a square outline — lively, good-natured and a loyal companion, outgoing and alert but sparing of affection to strangers. The RKC suggests up to an hour’s exercise and daily grooming, so a Tibetan Terrier’s routine has two fixed points besides meals: the walk and the brush.

How many DIGEST+ tablets does a Tibetan Terrier need?
A typical adult Tibetan Terrier weighs 8–14 kg, which crosses 2 rows of the DIGEST+ feeding guide. Weigh your own dog and use the row for its current weight — the table shows each case.
| Your dog’s weight | Tablets per day | One bottle lasts | Suggested refill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 10 kg | 1 tablet/day | 120 days | Every 12 weeks |
| 11–25 kg | 2 tablets/day | 60 days | Every 6 weeks |
The label goes from “up to 10 kg” to “11–25 kg”. A dog over 10 kg is no longer in the first band, so we use the 11–25 kg row.

Feeding-routine notes for Tibetan Terrier owners
- Daily grooming is a good moment to feel for changes in body shape that a long coat can hide.
- A Tibetan Terrier can fall either side of the 10 kg line in the feeding guide, so weigh your own dog rather than going by the breed.
- Long facial hair can collect food; a shallow bowl and a quick wipe after meals keep things tidy.
- Mixing a crushed tablet into the first spoonful of a meal makes sure it is eaten before the rest.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Tibetan Terrier: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Tibetan Terrier have a day?
Typical adult Tibetan Terriers weigh 8–14 kg, which crosses more than one row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: Up to 10 kg: 1 tablet/day; 11–25 kg: 2 tablets/day. Weigh your dog and use the row for its current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Tibetan Terrier?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 1 tablet/day one bottle lasts 120 days; At 2 tablets/day one bottle lasts 60 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
Is the Tibetan Terrier a small or medium dog for the feeding guide?
The AKC gives 18–30 pounds for males, with females slightly smaller — roughly 8 to 14 kg — so Tibetan Terriers can fall either side of the 10 kg line. Weigh your own dog and use that figure. Your vet can help if you are unsure.
My Tibetan Terrier is wary of new things in the bowl. What helps?
Introduce the tablet crushed into a small amount of a familiar food, and give the rest of the meal afterwards. Keep everything else about the meal the same while your dog gets used to it. If your dog goes off their food generally, speak to your vet.
Can every Tibetan Terrier have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Tibetan Terrier is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
