Pembroke Welsh Corgi: weight, routine and daily dose
The Royal Kennel Club describes the Pembroke as the traditional droving dog of Wales, and the AKC notes it was bred to move cattle — work that made it fearless and independent. Slightly smaller than its cousin the Cardigan, it has long been the more popular of the two, helped by the royal patronage it has enjoyed since the reign of King George VI.
The breed standard asks for a low-set, sturdily built dog that gives an impression of substance and stamina in a small space: bold, workmanlike, outgoing and friendly. The AKC adds that Pembrokes are bright, sensitive and respond well to training. Up to an hour’s exercise a day is the RKC’s guide, so short, purposeful walks and regular meals make a good framework.

How many DIGEST+ tablets does a Pembroke Welsh Corgi need?
A typical adult Pembroke Welsh Corgi weighs 9–12 kg, which crosses 2 rows of the DIGEST+ feeding guide. Weigh your own dog and use the row for its current weight — the table shows each case.
| Your dog’s weight | Tablets per day | One bottle lasts | Suggested refill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 10 kg | 1 tablet/day | 120 days | Every 12 weeks |
| 11–25 kg | 2 tablets/day | 60 days | Every 6 weeks |
The label goes from “up to 10 kg” to “11–25 kg”. A dog over 10 kg is no longer in the first band, so we use the 11–25 kg row.

Feeding-routine notes for Pembroke Welsh Corgi owners
- The standard gives 9–11 kg for bitches and 10–12 kg for dogs, which straddles the 10 kg line in the feeding guide — weigh your own Corgi rather than going by the breed.
- Measure meals rather than free-feeding, and count training rewards as part of the daily amount; a breed that responds well to training often earns a lot of them.
- A puzzle feeder or scattering part of the meal gives a bright herding dog something to work at during mealtimes.
- The tablet can be offered by hand after a short training session or crushed into food, whichever your dog prefers.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Pembroke Welsh Corgi have a day?
Typical adult Pembroke Welsh Corgis weigh 9–12 kg, which crosses more than one row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: Up to 10 kg: 1 tablet/day; 11–25 kg: 2 tablets/day. Weigh your dog and use the row for its current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Pembroke Welsh Corgi?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 1 tablet/day one bottle lasts 120 days; At 2 tablets/day one bottle lasts 60 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
Is my Pembroke Welsh Corgi in the up-to-10 kg band or the next one?
It depends on your individual dog. The breed standard gives 9–11 kg for bitches and 10–12 kg for dogs, so Pembrokes fall either side of the 10 kg line. Weigh your Corgi and use that figure with the feeding guide, and ask your vet whether your dog’s weight is right for them.
Can I use the tablet as a training reward?
Yes. DIGEST+ tablets are chicken-flavoured and can be eaten directly, so some owners offer them by hand after a short session; others crush them into food. Either way, give it once a day as part of the routine and keep fresh drinking water available.
Can every Pembroke Welsh Corgi have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Pembroke Welsh Corgi is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
