Dalmatian: weight, routine and daily dose
Despite the name, the Royal Kennel Club notes there is little evidence that the Dalmatian came from the Dalmatian coast. In the late 18th century, white spotted dogs accompanied horse-drawn carriages and guarded passengers and cargo; Thomas Bewick named the type in 1791, and during the Regency the ‘Spotted Coach Dog’ became a status symbol, also guarding stables at night and running ahead of horse-drawn fire engines.
The breed standard calls it a carriage dog of good demeanour, capable of great endurance and a fair turn of speed — outgoing and friendly, free from nervousness. That heritage shows in its needs: the RKC suggests more than two hours of exercise a day, so a Dalmatian’s routine is built around long, steady outings with meals placed sensibly around them.

How many DIGEST+ tablets does a Dalmatian need?
A typical adult Dalmatian weighs 20–32 kg, which crosses 2 rows of the DIGEST+ feeding guide. Weigh your own dog and use the row for its current weight — the table shows each case.
| Your dog’s weight | Tablets per day | One bottle lasts | Suggested refill |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11–25 kg | 2 tablets/day | 60 days | Every 6 weeks |
| 25–40 kg | 3 tablets/day | 40 days | Every 4 weeks |
The bottle label prints 25 kg in two rows (11–25 kg and 25–40 kg). We use the 11–25 kg row at exactly 25 kg; if your dog is heavier than 25 kg, use the 25–40 kg row.

Feeding-routine notes for Dalmatian owners
- Built for endurance, with more than two hours of exercise a day suggested, a Dalmatian is best fed once settled after the main outing rather than just before it.
- Fresh water should always be available, and especially after long exercise.
- Make any change of food gradually over several days, and talk to your vet before a big change to your dog’s diet.
- Two measured meals a day keep portions moderate for an active, medium-to-large dog.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.
