Pomeranian: weight, routine and daily dose
The Pomeranian is the smallest of the spitz breeds, bred down from the German Spitz. It was first seen in the UK in 1870 and became a great favourite of Queen Victoria, whose dogs were exhibited at shows in London; the Royal Kennel Club credits royal patronage, a dainty appearance and an extrovert character with popularising the breed.
The breed standard describes a sound, vivacious and dainty dog — extrovert, lively and intelligent. Up to 30 minutes of exercise a day is suggested, and the breed suits a flat, so a Pom’s routine is compact: short outings, grooming more than once a week, and small, carefully measured meals.

Feeding-routine notes for Pomeranian owners
- With an ideal weight of 1.8–2.5 kg, Pomeranians are in the up to 10 kg band. Under a full coat, weight changes are hard to see, so use a kitchen or baby scale.
- Crushing a tablet into a spoonful of the usual food is often easiest for a very small mouth — see how to give a dog a tablet.
- Keep titbits tiny; for a dog this size, a little extra food adds up fast.
- Change food gradually, and speak to your vet promptly about vomiting, diarrhoea or a dog that stops eating.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Pomeranian: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Pomeranian have a day?
Typical adult Pomeranians weigh 1.8–2.5 kg, which is the Up to 10 kg row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: 1 tablet/day. Always use your own dog’s current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Pomeranian?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 1 tablet/day one bottle lasts 120 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
Is a Pomeranian’s mouth too small for a tablet?
It can be. Crushing the tablet and mixing it into a little of the usual food is the simplest option for a toy breed. Offer that portion first so you can see it has been eaten.
How can I tell if my Pomeranian’s weight is changing under all that coat?
Use scales rather than your eyes. A kitchen or baby scale gives a reading you can compare month to month. If your dog gains or loses weight without an obvious reason, speak to your vet.
Can every Pomeranian have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Pomeranian is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
