Toy Poodle: weight, routine and daily dose
Behind the Toy Poodle’s elegant clip is a working past. The Royal Kennel Club explains that the Poodle originated in Germany as a water retriever for duck hunters, and that the traditional trim is practical rather than fanciful: the hindquarters were clipped to help the dog swim, while bands of hair were left on the joints and tail tip against the cold. The Kennel Club recognises three sizes sharing one standard, and the Toy — under 28 cm at the shoulder — captures the same features in the smallest mould.
The standard describes a gay-spirited, good-tempered dog with a coat that does not moult. The Royal Kennel Club suggests up to an hour of exercise a day and daily grooming, and notes the breed suits a flat. For a dog this small, a daily routine works best when it is simple and precise: measured meals, short walks, a brush, and anything extra given in a form a tiny mouth can manage.

Feeding-routine notes for Toy Poodle owners
- At roughly 1.5–3 kg, Toy Poodles are among the lightest dogs in the up to 10 kg band. Weigh on a kitchen or baby scale for accuracy — see how to weigh your dog.
- For a very small mouth, crushing a tablet into a spoonful of the usual food is often easier than giving it whole.
- A single titbit is a meaningful share of a tiny dog’s daily food, so keep extras small and count them.
- Make any change of food gradually, and speak to your vet promptly about vomiting, diarrhoea or a change in appetite.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Toy Poodle: common questions

Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 1 tablet/day one bottle lasts 120 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
Is a Toy Poodle’s mouth too small for a tablet?
It can be. Many owners of very small dogs crush the tablet and mix it into a little of the usual food, offered before the rest of the meal so they can see it has gone. Fresh drinking water should always be available.
Can I start a supplement for a Toy Poodle puppy?
DIGEST+ is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks old, and it is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs. For an older puppy, follow the label’s feeding guide for its current weight and re-weigh as it grows. If your puppy is under veterinary care, check with your vet first.
