Rough Collie: weight, routine and daily dose
The Rough Collie’s glamour has working roots. The Royal Kennel Club traces the breed, together with the Smooth Collie, to the working sheepdogs of Scotland, and notes that the earliest Collies were smaller than today’s dogs. A sable dog called Old Cockie, born in 1868, caused a sensation and made sable and white the most popular colour, and Queen Victoria brought Collies from Balmoral to her royal estates, including Windsor Castle.
The RKC describes the breed as friendly, happy and active, and suggests up to an hour of exercise a day alongside daily grooming. That makes for a steady, predictable day, which is the easiest setting for any feeding routine: meals at regular times, a calm walk, and a daily brush that doubles as a chance to notice changes in body shape under all that coat.

How many DIGEST+ tablets does a Rough Collie need?
A typical adult Rough Collie weighs 22.5–34.5 kg, which crosses 2 rows of the DIGEST+ feeding guide. Weigh your own dog and use the row for its current weight — the table shows each case.
| Your dog’s weight | Tablets per day | One bottle lasts | Suggested refill |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11–25 kg | 2 tablets/day | 60 days | Every 6 weeks |
| 25–40 kg | 3 tablets/day | 40 days | Every 4 weeks |
The bottle label prints 25 kg in two rows (11–25 kg and 25–40 kg). We use the 11–25 kg row at exactly 25 kg; if your dog is heavier than 25 kg, use the 25–40 kg row.

Days are for one dog. Each bottle holds 120 tablets; days are rounded down to whole days. Prices and cost per day by bottle count.
Feeding-routine notes for Rough Collie owners
- A long, full coat can hide gradual weight change. Feel along the ribs and waist during grooming, and use scales rather than judging by eye.
- Two meals a day at regular times suit a steady routine; give DIGEST+ with whichever meal is most reliable in your household.
- If your dog is wary of a whole tablet, crush it into a small first portion of the meal, then add the rest once that has gone.
- Give DIGEST+ at the same point in the day — with breakfast or dinner — so it becomes part of the routine. The tablets can be eaten directly or crushed into food.
- Weigh your dog every few months: the dose follows body weight, not breed.
- Introduce one new thing at a time. If you are also changing food, let that settle first so you know what is what.

Rough Collie: common questions
How many DIGEST+ tablets should a Rough Collie have a day?
Typical adult Rough Collies weigh 22.5–34.5 kg, which crosses more than one row of the DIGEST+ feeding guide: 11–25 kg: 2 tablets/day; 25–40 kg: 3 tablets/day. Weigh your dog and use the row for its current weight.
How long does one bottle of DIGEST+ last for a Rough Collie?
Each bottle holds 120 tablets. At 2 tablets/day one bottle lasts 60 days; At 3 tablets/day one bottle lasts 40 days. Days are for one dog and rounded down.
How can I tell if my Rough Collie’s weight is changing under the coat?
Run your hands along the ribs, waist and spine during the daily groom, because the coat can make a dog look heavier or lighter than it is. Weighing on scales every few months gives a firm number to match against the feeding guide. Speak to your vet about any unexpected weight loss or gain.
What does a simple daily routine look like for a Rough Collie?
The Royal Kennel Club suggests up to an hour of exercise a day and daily grooming for the breed. A morning walk, two meals at regular times and an evening brush is an easy pattern to keep, with the supplement given at the same meal each day. If your dog’s appetite or digestion changes, speak to your vet.
Can every Rough Collie have DIGEST+?
DIGEST+ is not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs and is not suitable for puppies under 12 weeks. If your Rough Collie is under veterinary supervision, ask your vet before starting.
